How to Beat Kall Fimbulbringer in Valheim: Full Boss Guide

Disclosure: Independent boss guide based on community-tested strategies for patch 1.0.15 (September 18, 2026). Data compiled from games.gg, thevalheim.wiki, valheim.tools, Valheim Companion, and Nodecraft. Iron Gate publishes no official boss stat sheets, so all values here are player-gathered.

Kall Fimbulbringer is Valheim's eighth and final boss, with roughly 47,000 HP across three phases — the largest health pool of any boss in the game. He resists Pierce, Fire, Frost and Lightning damage, and is completely immune to Spirit. Only Blunt and Slash deal full damage. Summoning him requires collecting three Malicious Blood, which means completing the Mörkhalla and Jotun Invasion chain three separate times before you ever reach the Aesir Passage.

How to Summon Kall Fimbulbringer

Kall does not sit at an open-air altar like the earlier Forsaken. He is imprisoned inside The Prison, accessed through the Aesir Passage. The summoning chain is the real work:

  1. Find the Intricate Key mould — explore Winding Tunnels beneath abandoned Deep North villages. Elakings also drop moulds
  2. Craft the Intricate Key — at a level 4 Black Forge, combine 1 Mould + 5 Bloodgold into a Cast, then process it in the Frost Foundry with Liquid Frost
  3. Enter Mörkhalla — the fortress dungeon in the Deep North. Use the Intricate Key to open its inner gate
  4. Destroy the Malicious Ice at the bottom (1,000 HP). This triggers a Jotun Invasion marked on your map
  5. Find the Vegvisir Aesir Passage inside Mörkhalla before leaving — it marks the boss location on your map
  6. Travel to the Jotun Invasion — it spawns in an earlier biome (Meadows, Black Forest, Swamp, Mountain or Plains), 1,000-12,000 metres from world centre
  7. Destroy the invasion's Malicious Ice Core (1,000 HP, weak to fire and axes/pickaxes) to receive one Malicious Blood
  8. Repeat steps 1-7 two more times — you need three Intricate Keys (15 Bloodgold) for all three Malicious Blood
  9. Offer the three Malicious Blood at the Strange Bowl inside the Aesir Passage. Kall breaks free roughly 12 seconds later

Efficiency tip: up to three Jotun Invasions can run simultaneously and are placed at least 400 metres apart. You can start all three from Mörkhalla dungeons and collect them in one trip. Each key costs 5 Bloodgold, so budget 15 Bloodgold for the full progression.

Recommended Loadout

Because of Kall's resistances, bringing a standard mixed endgame loadout wastes half your damage. Bring heavy Blunt or Slash weapons — a Nord greatsword, atgeir, or sledge is the safest pick. Do not rely on Fire, Frost, Lightning, Pierce, or Spirit weapons.

Loadout SlotRecommendation
MeleeNord greatsword or atgeir (Slash/Blunt)
ShieldStrong shield for Chain Slam blocks
Forsaken PowerBonemass (safest solo) or Fader (offensive)
FoodHighest-tier cold-resistant food (Spicy Marmalade, Frosty Barley Milk)
TrinketNeckstabber (activates at 65 Adrenaline)
ConsumablesHealing Mead — do NOT burn through in Phase 1

Bonemass Power is the safest choice for a first solo attempt: it grants resistance to Blunt, Slash and Pierce damage, removes block stamina costs, and restores stamina when blocking. Fader Power is the better offensive pick if your build uses the Neckstabber trinket, since it doubles Adrenaline gain.

Phase 1: Reading the Chains

Phase 1 is straightforward but where most players develop habits that kill them in Phase 3. Kall uses his chains as melee weapons, and they reach much farther than they look.

  • Chain Slam: overhead strike with heavy Blunt damage. Blockable with a strong shield if your stamina holds. Punish after blocking, then reset distance
  • Chain Sweep: horizontal swing across a wide area. Retreating straight back is not enough — dodge through or toward the sweep
  • Chain Whirl: spins both chains around his body, covering a large radius. Designed to punish players glued to his feet. Back away immediately
  • Chain Rush: forward lunge dealing Blunt and Pierce damage. Dodge sideways, not backward

The rhythm: watch, avoid or block, punish the recovery window with a short combo, reset. Do not squeeze extra hits between attacks.

Phase 2: The Forsaken Aspects

Phase 2 is where Valheim's full progression comes back to haunt you. Kall becomes completely immune to all damage types — including physical, elemental and even Poison. Stop attacking him entirely. Instead, he summons seven Aspects of the bosses you have already defeated, starting with Eikthyr. Clear all seven, and only then does he become vulnerable again.

The Aspects are:

  • Lightning Stag (Eikthyr) — the largest Aspect health pool at 3,000 HP, so it is a good target for burst cooldowns
  • Living Forest (The Elder)
  • Writhing Dead (Bonemass)
  • Dragon Mother (Moder)
  • Twisted Soul (Yagluth)
  • Crawling Matriarch (The Queen)
  • Emerald Flame (Fader)

Multiple Aspects can be active at the same time — usually two at once, with later opponents cycling in as replacements. Finish low-health Aspects before switching targets rather than spreading damage across the arena. Plan your movement around the active enemies instead of standing next to Kall waiting for an opening.

Save your Healing Mead here. This is the phase where players burn through their consumables and arrive at Phase 3 unable to heal. Conserve Healing Mead for Phase 3 and use it only after taking a significant hit in a safe window.

Group tip: if you are playing co-op, agree on the current target so one nearly-defeated Aspect does not linger while everyone switches opponents.

Phase 3: The Endurance Test

Phase 3 has the largest health pool (30,000 HP) and is longer than Phases 1 and 2 combined. Kall returns with his chain moveset, but now every attack carries Fire and Frost damage on top of the physical hit. This is where your resistance preparation pays off.

  • Elemental Chain Slam: the Phase 1 overhead, now dealing physical + Fire + Frost simultaneously. Wait for both swings before punishing
  • Chain Whirl (upgraded): returns with Fire and Frost added. Do not assume it behaves like Phase 1
  • Chain Flurry: a rapid sequence of repeated chain strikes. Back away completely and wait for the full animation. Trying to squeeze a hit mid-flurry is how most Phase 3 deaths happen
  • Ground Punch: close-range shockwave that can heavily stagger you. Move away rather than tanking it
  • Spike Rain (Ice Fall): Kall rises and drops ice spikes across the arena. Keep moving between impacts until the barrage ends
  • Tendrils: stationary roots with ~80 HP each, weak to Fire. Destroy only those blocking your escape routes — you do not need to clear every one, they expire on their own

Stamina matters more than damage output in Phase 3. Always keep enough for at least one emergency dodge. If your stamina is running low, stop attacking and create distance — losing a few seconds of damage time is far better than eating a Chain Flurry or Spike Rain with no way to escape. This is exactly where saved Healing Mead pays off.

What You Get for Beating Kall

Kall drops two guaranteed items and unlocks one crafting recipe. Unlike every previous Forsaken, he grants no new Forsaken Power.

  • Sacrificial Blood — the item that ends the game. Take it back to the Sacrificial Stones in the Meadows (the very first altar you interacted with at the start of the game) to complete Valheim's main progression and trigger the ending sequence
  • Crown Jewel — craft with 5 Bloodgold at a level 4 Black Forge into the Crown of Valheim: 50 Armor, +5% movement speed, -20% Attack/Run/Swim/Sneak stamina usage, and normal creatures flee instead of attacking you
  • Seasoning of the Gourd (220 coins) — unlocked at the Bog Witch, the final ingredient for the Northern Morning Fare
  • Kall Fimbulbringer achievement — in-game title: "defeat the Shackled One"

Important caveat about the Crown of Valheim: the "creatures flee" effect skips anything in the Boss faction. Kall and the other seven Forsaken ignore the crown entirely, so it does not trivialise a rematch.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Bringing the wrong damage type. Half your standard endgame loadout is resisted. Bring Blunt or Slash.
  • Attacking Kall during Phase 2. He is fully immune. Stop and clear the Aspects.
  • Burning Healing Mead in Phase 1. Conserve it for Phase 3, where it decides the fight.
  • Sticking to Kall's feet during Chain Whirl. Back away the moment the animation starts.
  • Trying to squeeze hits mid-Chain Flurry. Wait out the full animation.
  • Skipping the Vegvisir in Mörkhalla. Without it you cannot locate the Aesir Passage.
  • Only doing the Mörkhalla loop once. You need three Malicious Blood — the loop runs three times.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I summon Kall Fimbulbringer?

Collect 3 Malicious Blood by clearing three Jotun invasions (each triggered by breaking the Malicious Ice in Mörkhalla). Offer the three at the Strange Bowl in the Aesir Passage — the Vegvisir that marks it is found inside Mörkhalla — to open The Prison.

What damage type is best against Kall Fimbulbringer?

Blunt and Slash deal full damage. He resists Pierce, Fire, Frost and Lightning at half damage, and is completely immune to Spirit. Poison is neutral.

How much health does Kall Fimbulbringer have?

Roughly 47,000 HP across three phases: 10,000 in Phase 1, 7,000 in Phase 2, and 30,000 in Phase 3 — the largest pool of any boss in Valheim.

What are the Aspects in Phase 2?

Spirit versions of the seven bosses you have already defeated: Lightning Stag, Living Forest, Writhing Dead, Dragon Mother, Twisted Soul, Crawling Matriarch, and Emerald Flame. Kall is fully immune while they are alive.

Does Kall Fimbulbringer drop a Forsaken Power?

No. Unlike every previous Forsaken, Kall grants no Forsaken Power. He is the end of the chain, not a gate to the next biome.

How do I finish the game after beating Kall?

Take the Sacrificial Blood he drops back to the Sacrificial Stones in the Meadows — the first altar you interacted with at the start of the game — and offer it there to trigger the ending sequence.

Conclusion

Kall Fimbulbringer is the hardest fight in Valheim, and the difficulty comes from preparation rather than reflexes. Bring Blunt or Slash weapons, not elemental ones. Conserve Healing Mead for Phase 3. Clear the Aspects quickly in Phase 2 instead of trying to rush Kall. And remember the summoning loop runs three times — three Mörkhalla dungeons, three Jotun Invasions, three Intricate Keys, 15 Bloodgold. Beat him, take the Sacrificial Blood back to the Meadows, and you finish Valheim's story.
